Motorized instruments hang from the ceiling, shaping a sculptural soundscape that fills the space. As a visitor, you become enveloped in the slowly shifting tones of harmoniums.

The inspiration for this immersive installation began with an old spinning choral humming top that De Groot once found at a flea market. Fascinated by the colorful children’s toy producing a three-chord melody, she delved into its patented mechanism, the history of spinning tops, and the free-reed instrument.

This research culminated in a choir of motorized, spinning harmoniums suspended from the ceiling. Each instrument is tuned differently, creating shifting interferences and rhythmic beatings as visitors move through the space.

Currently there are 2 versions, one with 5 and one with 12 instruments.
