Our eyes are slow- high-speed motion passes us by unnoticed. What we perceive instead is a fusion of form and color over time. Only when we break movement down into distinct moments do we truly see what is happening.
Hidden Patterns // 2 explores this phenomenon using simple, early animation techniques, revealing the remarkable creative power of our brain. Movement as an optical illusion.
At the heart of the installation is a rotating disc with a cut-out symmetrical pattern, illuminated by a carefully composed sequence of light frequencies. The brief flashes of light expose the pattern in ever-changing ways, creating shifting visual effects. By manipulating these complex light patterns, new and unexpected motions emerge before our eyes.
The flickering light composition is generated using synthesizer simulators. Light sensors placed within the projection translate the movement into sound, creating a seamless synchronization between what we see and hear.
